What makes a Perch.
Thach is a small, personally verified collection of distinctive mountain stays—places we grow slowly and would confidently recommend to a friend.
We do not list every property. Before we visit, these are the qualities we hope to find.
What we look for
- Independent and small. A cabin, homestay, farm stay, shepherd's hut or village home — run by you, not a hotel or a chain.
- A setting worth the climb. Genuinely quiet and in nature — forest, valley, ridge or farmland — with a stillness you can feel.
- A character of its own. Local materials, honest design, a sense of place. Not a room that could be anywhere.
- The basics done well. A clean private bathroom, running hot water, and reliable essentials. Simple is welcome; grubby isn't.
- A host who hosts. Someone present and glad to be — a welcome, a story, food from the valley.
- Comfortable with the truth. You'll let us visit, photograph the real rooms, and describe it honestly — trade-offs and all.
- Care for the valley. You keep the land and its people lightly, and you'd hold your guests to the same.
Probably not, if
- It's a hotel, a resort, or built for volume.
- You'd trade the right guest for maximum occupancy.
- The place is ordinary, or could be anywhere.
- You'd rather we didn't visit, or didn't mention the trade-offs.
- Quiet and conservation aren't how you'd run it.
However you reach it — a road to the door, a rough track, or a walk in from the last village — is fine. Remoteness isn't a mark against a place; we'll describe the journey honestly and present the Perch exactly as it is.

How it works

You apply
Tell us about your place — a few honest details to start. No fee, and nothing to labour over.
We visit, in person
A curator comes to see it, meets you, and walks the setting. We only list what we've stood inside.
We present it properly
If it's right, we photograph it, write it honestly, and put it in front of the few guests it's meant for.

Tell us about your property. A curator will reach out to explain the standard, arrange a visit, and walk through the model. We publish only after an in-person verification — so applying is the start of a relationship, not a listing. If it isn't the right fit, we'll say so honestly.
