Thach began with a small, familiar disappointment — the distance between the photo and the place you actually arrive at.
How it started
It began with a drive we shouldn't have made in the dark.
A cabin that looked perfect online. What the photos left out: the last kilometre was an unlit track, the "private" balcony overlooked the host's kitchen, and the only heating was a blanket. The trip was fine. Almost nothing matched the listing.
We realised the problem in mountain travel isn't a shortage of beautiful places. It's a shortage of trust — the quiet confidence that the door you open is the one you were shown. So we started driving out to places ourselves, sleeping a night, and writing down what a filtered photo never tells you. Thach is what grew from that habit.
We're not selling the mountains. They were here first. We just make it easier to trust the door you'll open.
What Thach is
A small, honest marketplace — not a chain of cabins.
We don't own or build the stays, and we never will. We find independent cabins and homestays worth the climb, verify each one in person, and present it plainly. Fewer listings, checked properly, with real people accountable from the moment you're curious to the moment you arrive. The host keeps their home and their rates. We keep the standard.
What we hold to
Four things we won't trade away.
Verified in person
A curator visits every stay, sleeps a night, and checks it against a fixed standard before it ever goes live. No exceptions, no stock photos.
Honest about trade-offs
We say plainly who a stay is for — and who should choose another. A steep track or a shared wall isn't hidden; it's written down.
Small on purpose
A collection you can read end to end. We would rather have a few stays we can stand behind than a thousand we can't.
Fair to hosts
No joining fee, no exclusivity, reliable payouts. The people who make these places special stay in control of them.
The curators
Real people, on real roads.
Every stay is checked by someone who'll put their name to it. If a road note is wrong, you know exactly whose it was.
Priya
Covers Narkanda–Kotgarh and Shoja. Grew up in an apple-farming family; can tell you which week the blossom turns and which homes still cook on wood.
Ishaan
Covers Tirthan, Jibhi and the higher ridges. Drives the routes in every season so the access notes are true in January, not just May.
The standard
Road, privacy, warmth, signal, meals, power, safety. The same questions, every stay, written the same honest way — so listings are comparable, not just pretty.
Where we're going
Himachal first. Not Himachal only.
We're starting in three Himachal regions because we can stand behind every stay in them. The method — visit, verify, explain, stay small — isn't tied to a place. In time it moves to other ranges and other quiet corners. The photography will change. The bar won't.
